The article examines the financial fragility of Mexican small and medium enterprises during the COVID-19 crisis. It reviews the importance of SMEs for employment and economic activity, the simultaneous supply and demand shocks caused by the pandemic, and difficulties in accessing credit and financial services. The paper argues for policies that improve financial inclusion, liquidity and financing mechanisms to support recovery and productive capacity.
